Program FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the Young Ambassadors Organization and the Leadership and Public Speaking Program?

Young Ambassadors is a non-profit organization founded in 2009. The Leadership and Public Speaking program is a summer and after-school program that helps students build confidence, enhance critical thinking and communication, and learn important leadership skills.

2. What is the general course layout for the Leadership and Public Speaking program?

Each session we have students take on leadership roles and complete speech drills. Through the course, students learn the fundamentals of public speech and leadership skills and build confidence and develop Emotional Intelligence. Students will learn goal-setting and time management through various activities. We ensure the lesson is hands-on and age appropriate, keeping each student with their age group.

Besides speech drills and confidence-building exercises, we also practice writing prepared speeches. During a prepared speech, students learn to prepare an outline. Once they have completed their speech, they are evaluated on the content and style of their speech. Throughout the year, we host student speech showcases where all the students compete and we present awards.

3. What are the age groups?

Generally, the students are divided into age groups of 7-9, 10-13, and teens. Different coaches facilitate the activities of each age group. The requirements for older students are also different from that of younger students.

4. How many students are in a class?

Our class sizes vary from small groups to large. The ratio for coaches to students is 10:1. Our max is 20.

5. What are the dates for the upcoming season?

To find out about the dates of upcoming sessions if they are not yet posted on the website, send an email to [email protected] or give us a call at (714) 803-9200. We’ll be sure to keep you informed. We also want to accommodate parent’s schedules. Let us know your availability for any upcoming sessions and we’ll do our best to schedule our programs around that.

6. How do I register my child for the program?

For classes run directly through Young Ambassadors, you can register here. For community center classes, contact your local Parks and Recreation department to register. If you do not wish to register online, you can download the registration form and send it to us via:

8. Who are the coaches?

We train all of our coaches and ensure they are well prepared for each lesson. Generally, they are college educated and have experience with public speaking in some capacity (theater, debate, Toastmasters, etc.) and also have worked with other youth programs or are pursuing careers in education. Check out our coach’s in the “ABOUT US” section.

9. We have vacation plans. Are there other options?

There are other cities with different dates, so if a time does not work out for you – you might consider registering for a different city. You can also call our office to ask about other issues that may come up (only missing one session, tutoring opportunities, etc.)

10. What opportunities will my child have during the program?

Students will have the opportunity to get involved in community service through our Leadership Project. In the past, we have made students from ages 2nd – 10th grade plan donation drives, holiday card campaigns, and more! We look forward to seeing the creativity new and continuing students bring to their Leadership Project for this year.

After the students have completed each session, we will be giving them the opportunity to speak in a formal setting at our Speech Showcase. We invite all friends and family, and special guest speakers. This is one of the highlights of our program as students get to showcase their skills and compete for prizes. We will be having Regional Events throughout the year.
